PWD Inaugurates Land Resources Management Committee to Safeguard Public Lands

The Public Works Department strengthens land governance through the inauguration of a dedicated committee to protect, preserve, and sustainably manage its land resources.

The Public Works Department (PWD) has officially inaugurated its Land Resources Management Committee, marking another significant step towards strengthening the protection, management, and sustainable utilisation of the Department’s land assets across Ghana.

Land remains one of the Department’s most valuable resources, supporting its mandate to develop, maintain, and manage critical public infrastructure. In recent years, however, the Department has faced increasing challenges, including land encroachment, unauthorised developments, and other forms of illegal occupation that threaten the effective use and preservation of these public assets.

Recognising the need to address these challenges, Management resolved at a meeting held in the Department’s Conference Room to establish a committee to examine the prevailing land-related issues and recommend practical strategies for protecting and managing the Department’s land resources.

The Land Resources Management Committee was constituted on 25 June 2026 and officially inaugurated on 22 July 2026. The Committee has been mandated to oversee the Department’s land resources and provide strategic recommendations aimed at protecting, preserving, and ensuring their sustainable utilisation in support of the Department’s mandate.

Speaking at the inauguration, Management reaffirmed the Department’s commitment to responsible stewardship of public assets and emphasised the importance of proactive land management in supporting national infrastructure development and safeguarding government property for future generations.

The inauguration of the Committee reflects PWD’s continuous efforts to improve institutional governance, strengthen asset management, and promote the efficient utilisation of public resources in line with its mission of delivering quality public infrastructure services.
