In a proactive step towards staff safety, Public Works Department recently underwent a comprehensive Fire Service Training on 18th October 2023. The training aimed to fortify the team’s preparedness and response strategies in the face of a potential fire emergency. The training was aimed at:

  • Raising Awareness; Ensuring all employees are well-versed in fire hazards specific to our workplace. Highlighting the significance of maintaining unobstructed evacuation routes
  • Skill Building; Equipping each member with practical firefighting skills and also providing hands-on experience in the correct utilization of fire extinguishers and other essential firefighting equipment.
  • Emergency Response Enhancement; Training designated emergency response teams to seamlessly manage fire emergencies. Fostering coordination with external fire services through realistic simulation exercises.
  • Evacuation Drills; Conducting realistic evacuation drills to instill a sense of preparedness. Assigning roles and responsibilities during evacuations to ensure an orderly process.

Our journey towards a safer workplace involved engaging sessions led by certified fire safety instructors from the Ghana Fire Service. The sessions seamlessly blended theoretical insights with practical demonstrations, ensuring an immersive learning experience for all participants.

Using a fire extinguisher is pretty straightforward. Just remember the acronym PASS:

  • Pull: Pull the pin at the top of the extinguisher. This will break the tamper seal and allow you to discharge the extinguisher.
  • Aim: Aim the nozzle or hose at the base of the fire. Pointing at the flames won’t help; you want to hit the source.
